Pieter le Roux studied medicine at Stellenbosch University in South Africa. He did his basic surgical training in the UK, obtaining the FRCS in London. He was a registrar in urology at Groote Schuur Hospital and the University of Cape Town, including an attachment at the Red Cross Childrens Hospital. After obtaining the (FCS(SA)UROL in 2000 he was appointed as consultant urologist and senior lecturer to Tygerberg Hospital and Stellenbosch University. Mr Le Roux moved to Epsom and St Helier NHS Trust in November 2002, initially as locum consultant and more recently in a substantive post.
Mr Le Roux introduced laparoscopic urology at Epsom & St Helier where he is performing laparoscopic nephrectomy and laparoscopic pyeloplasty on a regular basis. His training in laparoscopic urology included several courses in Europe and visits to Indirer Gill In Cleveland and Chris Eden in Basingstoke. His other clinical interests include oncology, treatment of urinary tract calculi, reconstruction and general urology.
Mr Le Rouxs research towards his Masters degree involved the use of acellular collagen matrix grafts in endoscopic urethral reconstruction. He teaches students from St Georges hospital medical school. Mr Le Roux regularly teaches on laparoscopic training courses in South Africa and the UK. In 2002 the South African Urological Association awarded him with the Storz prize, a traveling fellowship awarded every two years to the outstanding young urologist in South Africa.
