Dr. Simon P Joseph MA BM BCh (Oxon) FRCP(London), FESC.
Previoulsy, he was Consultant Cardiologist at Mayday University Hospital, Croydon, and associate Clinical Teacher at Kings College Medical School. He now works part-time in the NHS. He was Senior Registrar at the Middlesex Hospital and honorary Consultant Cardiologist at the Royal Brompton and National Heart Hospital. He is a member of the British Cardiac Society, the British Pacing & Electrophysiology Group, the North American Society for Pacing & Electrophysiology and a fellow of the European Society of Cardiology.
He was born in Newport, Gwent and educated at Worcester College, Oxford and Westminster Hospital Medical School. He trained at the National Heart, Royal Free, Great Ormond Street and Middlesex Hospitals and the Texas Heart Institute in Houston, USA. He was examiner in Medicine for the Conjoint Board of the Royal Colleges of Physicians and Surgeons. He helped establish a Regional Cardiac Catheterisation Centre in Croydon and supervised a rapid expansion of cardiac services there. He initiated the foundation of the Mayday Heartbeat Appeal for the generation of funds for the redevelopment of the cardiac unit at Mayday University Hospital. He served on several hospital and regional committees and is the author of papers on Clinical Cardiology, Cardiac Pacing and Nuclear Cardiology. His main research interests have lain in the field of cardiac pacemakers. His experience covers the whole field of cardiology including hypertension, coronary, congenital and heart muscle disease. He has particular expertise in cardiac catheterisation, heart rhythm disorders and cardiac pacemakers. In addition to St Anthonys Hospital, he also consults at Shirley Oaks Hospital, Croydon and North Downs Hospital, Caterham.
