Thomas Duncan Tennent BSC(Hons), FRCS(Orth)
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
I qualified as a doctor from St Bartholomew's Hospital Medical College. My basic surgical training was at the Royal Free Hospital and my Orthopaedic Training was based at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore. I then spent a year in Richmond, Virginia, USA training in arthroscopy before completing my shoulder training at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital.
My NHS practice is entirely shoulder and elbow surgery. This includes the treatment of arthritis (including joint replacement), sports injuries and fractures.
My particular area of interest is the use of arthroscopic techniques in the treatment of both joints. Arthroscopy provides many advantages in treatment as it allows an excellent view of the joint that is not always possible with conventional techniques. The small incisions are also more cosmetically acceptable and facilitate a more rapid recovery. It is not possible to treat all conditions in this manner although the list is increasing yearly.
