Dr. von Oertzen was appointed to his consultant post in September 2003 and commenced in January 2004. He was appointed to establish the epilepsy service in the South West London region.
He studied in Germany (Freiburg, Bonn) as well as in the UK (London). He trained general neurology in Germany. After his CCST-equivalent (Neurologist) he was appointed to a consultant-equivalent post at the Department of Epileptology, University of Bonn (Chairman: Prof. Dr. C. E. Elger, FRCP).
He is interested in general neurology, headaches and cerebrovascular diseases (stroke). His special interest includes all aspects of epilepsy, seizure disorders, fainting and loss of consciousness.
His research interests are neuroimaging in epilepsies. This includes magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), positron emission tomography (PET) and computed fusion methods of these techniques, especially in presurgical evaluation of epilepsy. Furthermore, he investigated in Video-EEG- monitoring of non-invasive and invasive presurgical evaluation of epilepsy.
