Mr Dibyesh Banerjee is a senior Consultant Breast & General Surgeon and Hon. Senior Lecturer at St George's Hospital Medical School, University of London. He is a member of the Association of Breast Surgeons (ABS) and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine. His main interest lies in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery, which is an established surgical sub-specialty encompassing all aspects of breast surgery – combining the best principles of cancer surgery with the best techniques of breast reconstruction and cosmesis.
He underwent his Specialist training at the Oncoplastic Breast Unit in Winchester and at the Cardiff Breast Unit in Wales. His international experience includes Sentinel Node Biopsy training at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre in New York and a Travelling Fellowship at the Winship Cancer Institute and Crawford Long Hospital, Emory University, Atlanta. He has also attended several training courses in the UK and abroad, including a Breast Reconstruction Course at European Institute of Oncology in Milan and the Jersey Breast Reduction Masterclass.
As a keen surgical trainer, he has established the St Georges Oncoplastic Breast Surgery Seminar – a biennial training programme aimed at Breast Surgery trainees.
Mr Banerjee runs the ‘One Stop’ Breast Clinic on Monday evenings – for rapid assessment and diagnosis of all breast problems. Each patient is seen and examined by Mr Banerjee personally and, any tests (including mammograms and biopsies), usually performed at the same visit by a senior Consultant Breast Radiologist.
Mr Banerjee also performs large numbers of ‘benign’ breast operations each year – including correction of inverted nipples, breast asymmetry (uneven breasts), breast enlargement, breast reduction and breast lift (mastopexy). He is also a specialist in male breast problems e.g., male breast reductions for gynaecomastia. As a General Surgeon he also performs hernia repairs, removal of ‘lumps & bumps’, lymph node biopsy, hidradenitis and other day case procedures.
