Dr Rowlands qualified in 1981 and he has spent his professional life studying and practising psychiatry. He was lecturer in Psychological Medicine at the Medical College of St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London and subsequently became a Consultant Psychiatrist based in Redhill.
He left the Health Service in 1995 and he has practised exclusively in Private Practice since that time. He therefore has had long experience of understanding and treating psychological problems. He works with a network of well qualified therapists who undertake a range of psychological therapies such as CBT and EMDR. He would be able to pre-authorise, for insurance company purposes, therapy if it is appropriate.
Dr Rowlands has a specific interest in the misuse of alcohol but the main areas of his work are anxiety disorders and particularly psychological problems following difficulties at work.
Bipolar Disorder is another area of interest which, if managed correctly, can provide an excellent outcome. For preliminary discussion on appointment times and costs please contact his personal assistant, Ms Trudy Thurston-Moon, via email [email protected] or, in working hours, 01737 812211.

Dr Woolley trained at St Mary's Hospital Medical School specialising in psychiatry at the prestigious Maudsley Hospital and Institute of Psychiatry in London. He undertook a further degree in psychology at University College London, achieved MRCP at the Royal Free Hospital London, and gained additional experience in psychiatry in Sydney, Australia.
The Maudsley Hospital has been a centre of excellence in psychiatric training and research for almost a century; the largest and most influential mental health establishment outside the USA. A variety of posts working with leaders in the field, have provided him with a wide range of expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of many conditions; from anxiety and depression to schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, using both evidence-based medication and psychotherapy.
Dr Woolley has been awarded a number of prizes for clinical and academic research, and works in the NHS as consultant psychiatrist with South West London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust, developing an innovative early intervention service working with young adults at the point at which they first present with symptoms of mental health problems. In 2007 he was the BUPA foundation award winner for clinical excellence - a national award open to all medical specialities.
He has also been actively involved in research at the Institute of Psychiatry, Kings College London, leading to a number of publications in high-impact peer reviewed journals. Again, these reflect his wide ranging areas of expertise and interest, from chronic fatigue to OCD and schizophrenia, and from treatment trials to neuroimaging.
Dr Woolley offers a thorough clinical assessment and will then discuss individually tailored treatment options and develop a management plan in conjunction with the patient. He welcomes referrals across the broad range of general adult mental health, and has particular expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
Dr Woolley is available for consultations at The Priory Hospital Roehampton and St Anthony's Hospital (North Cheam). Home visits are also possible by arrangement.
