Early pregnancy is an exciting time for you and your partner. However, several factors such as previous unfortunate pregnancy outcomes, common symptoms (bleeding and/or pain) and conflicting information regarding what you can or cannot do, can cause anxiety.

The Early Pregnancy Clinic at St Anthony’s Hospital is a specialised and advanced service for women in the 1st trimester of pregnancy. We provide consultant-led care, in a friendly and confidential environment.

The clinic consists of:

  • Ultrasound scan by a Consultant Gynaecologist
  • Pregnancy test
  • Blood Pressure test
  • Pregnancy hormone test (if medically appropriate; incurs an extra charge)
  • Consultation to facilitate discussion about:

– Common early pregnancy problems;
– Diet, exercise and weight gain during pregnancy;
– Information about medication allowed / better avoided during pregnancy;
– Any other worries you might have.

The early pregnancy clinic is appropriate for those experiencing symptoms such as vaginal bleeding and/or lower abdominal pain in the first trimester of pregnancy or if you just require information and reassurance.

We are able to diagnose a miscarriage or an ectopic pregnancy early and help you deal with it.

A detailed report of the scan findings and the consultation outcome will be given to you at the end of the appointment.

A copy of your results can be sent to your GP at your discretion. If you would like us to do this for you, please bring the name and surgery address of your GP to your first appointment.

Occasionally a follow up appointment may be required. This will be indicated and can be arranged at your convenience.

For further information and appointments please telephone our Outpatient Department on 020 8335 4678/79.
