Physiotherapy at St Anthony's

It can be a pain in the neck...

...or the back, the leg or any other part of the body. In fact you'd be surprised how many problems a Chartered physiotherapist can help you solve, and avoid.

Evidence suggests that early treatment by a Physiotherapist can reduce the time it takes to recover from injury or ill health.

As a profession Physiotherapists do not need a referral from a Doctor (however your insurance company may require one). We are experts in assessing and treating muscular and joint conditions and are often a quicker alternative to a lengthy wait to see your GP or a consultant. We can also advise you if you need further help from a consultant.

Every year Britain's 29,000 Chartered Physiotherapists help millions of people manage the effects of injury, illness and the stresses and strains of everyday life. Whether you're young or old, active or taking it easy, there's a strong chance you could benefit from physiotherapy at some point. Half of us for instance, will suffer from back pain at some stage in our lives. Physiotherapy uses a variety of techniques to help your muscles and joints work to their full potential. It can also help repair damage by speeding up the healing process and reducing pain and stiffness.

St Anthony's physiotherapy department has a team of highly skilled physiotherapists.

All are Chartered and are registered with the Health Professions Council and together have specialist experience across wide variety of clinical problems.

How do I get an appointment?

Just phone us on our direct line 020 8335 4589. You can refer yourself or be referred by your GP or Consultant.

If you are claiming from an insurance company please notify them first, as they may require you to have a Doctor's referral

We offer early morning through to evening appointment times.

What happens during my appointment?

Your first appointment may be arranged for half an hour or an hour depending on your problem, to allow time to examine you and asses your problem and then provide treatment. This will be discussed when you book.

Treatment may consist of:

  • Hands on techniques to mobilise and stretch tissues.
  • Exercises to strengthen muscles and stabilise joints.
  • Postural advice to ensure you are protecting yourself from further injury.
  • Electrotherapy and Acupuncture to assist with pain relief.

The department has individual treatment areas for hands on treatment and a gym area for exercise and gait analysis for running and walking.

It is advisable to wear clothing suitable for exercising in and you will probably be asked to undress for your examination depending on the location of your injury.

The Physiotherapists at St Anthony's are all experienced senior staff, both male and female and are recognised by all insurance companies. We work closely with our consultants at the hospital and can arrange, via your GP, referral to the appropriate specialist where necessary. We have on site facilities for X-ray, MRI, CT scan and ultrasound so that further investigations are easily organised.
